Description: The site is a roughly triangular and level area about 15 metres by 10 metres at the southern end of river flats on the east bank of the Big River. For some distance up the steep hillside behind the site there is a shallow depression. At a height of some 5 metres above the battery site this depression intersects two level benches cut into the hillside. Statement of Significance: At the time of its erection (late 1894/early 1895) the installation was regarded as a model gold processing plant. It was only the second plant in Victoria to use the newly imported Luhrig vanners for the treatment of heavily mineralised ore and its operation was described several times in the Australian Mining Standard.
